About Us

People & Planet raises funds for and supports the work of Australian environment and social justice organisations. Our vision is to help create a more just and environmentally sustainable world.

Each year we publish a diary and a calendar featuring 55 amazing images of people and places around the world, matched with short stories about social and environmental issues.

People and Planet was established in 2007 and we've since raised over $150,000 for our partnering organisations. Based in Collingwood. Victoria, in 2010 we're planning to publish over over 5,000 copies of our diary and calendar, and support the work of over 40 Australian environment and social justice organisations.

Environmentally Friendly!

People & Planet is deeply committed to environmental sustainability - our People & Planet diaries and calendars are printed on lotus recycled artboard (cover) and mega recycled FSC (interior) paper. Lotus is 100% post-consumer recycled fibre. Mega is 50% post-consumer waste and FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified sustainability – harvest fibre.

Where do the photographs come from?

Each year People & Planet runs an international photography competition themed around the environment and social justice. The winners of this competition have their photographs published in the diary and calendar. People & Planet receives nearly 1,000 entries every year from about 50 countries.

Who are we?

Michael Cebon – Founder & Editor

Michael edits and publishes the People & Planet Diary & Calendar. His other projects include founding EthicalJobs.com.au, an Australian job-search site that advertises community jobs, non-profit jobs, green jobs, ethical business and government jobs for people that want to make the world a better place. Michael is also the Founder & Coordinator of Global Trade Watch, which monitors the social and environmental impacts of global trade and advocates for fair trading systems, and he wrote and co-directed the 2007 documentary Squeezed: The Cost of Free Trade in the Asia Pacific.

David Harris – Marketing & Sales Manager

After sadly accepting that he was never going to become a professional sitar player David resigned himself to the intention of changing the world for the better. With a passion for art, culture and the behaviors of people he studied Culture and Media at Edith Cowan University. Whilst studying David acted as the University Queer Officer, lobbying for equality and diversity and was a Board Member on the Youth Advisory Council Of Australia. He has guest lectured on topics such as gender politics, xenophobia in Australian society and politics as well as ethical media responsibility. Immediately before working at People & Planet David was employed in arts sponsorship and fundraising for a state performance company.

David enjoys cooking, painting, art-house films and of course occasionally breaking out the sitar.
